| 6th Meilun River Ecological Expo: Forest Fairies-Secret Life of Birds |
| The 6th Meilun River Ecological Expo instructed by the Hualien County Government and sponsored by the HFDO and Hualien County Wild Bird Society will be held at 8:00-12:00 on 1 May 2005 at the Meilun River Waterfront Park (under Shangchi Bridge). It is estimated that about 2000 locals will participate this only ecology-focused exposition held in Hualien and Taitung. |

| [Supporters of ecology conservation, parents and teachers are welcome to join us with their children] The organizer has prepared a wide variety of activities for the expo divided into the following 6 zones: featured exhibition, group ecological games, maroon oriole (oriolus traillii), sketching, product and bird-watching zones. The feature of this expo is Forest Fairies-Secret Life of Birds. The organizer will introduce the life of birds, bird ecology, habitat conservation and interesting behaviors of birds through a series of descriptions and guides in order to promote bird ecology and habitat conservation and related environmental issues and to encourage public participations in biodiversity maintenance in an easy-to-understand approach. |

| At the group ecological game zone, the following units will show visitors the wonder of nature and environment in terms of a series of ecological games; and promote eco-recreations, environmental education and ecological conservation and introduce the biodiversity in Hualien through demonstrating bird specimens and wall maps, introduction of forest protection, street dog adoption, recycle product production, and charity sales, in order to let people understand more about the ecology and natural resources in Hualien and so to identify with, concern and protect this land. Citizens will be encouraged to join the ecology observation work to achieve the goal of eco-recreation and environmental education. These units include the HFDO, Hualien County Wild Bird Society, Department of Health of HCG, the Hualien Inspection Station of Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Hualien County Revenues Service, Wild Bird Federation Taiwan, Taitung County Wild Bird Society, Ray Hope of Hualien County, Hualien Dreamers' Union, Kuroshio Ocean Culture Foundation, Taiwan Environment Protection. Union Hualien Chapter, Hualien County Animal Protection Association, The Society of Wilderness in Hualien, Graduate Institute of Ecology and Environmental Education of National Hualien Teachers College, Hualien Sunrise Environmental Group, Hualien County Youth Volunteers Association, CYC Hualien Truth, Perfection and Beauty Communion, Taiwan Animal Right and Welfare Association Hualien, Achelis Taiwan Co., Ltd., NDHU Nature Club, Huagang Junior High School Nature Observation Club,Lin-ming Huang Studio, and Meilun Social Education Station. |

| At the bird-watching zone, the organizer will prepare telescopes for visitors to observe a wide range of wild birds, including the little egret, intermediate egret, black-crowned night heron, common moorhen, white-vented myna, black-headed munia, scaly-breasted munia, sparrow, common sandpiper, white-breasted water hen, and yellow wagtail. Professional announcers will introduce the ecology of these birds so that every visitor can enjoy the charm of the bird's world at Meilun River. |

| The organizer also prepares a quiz to evaluate the education efficacy of the event. Moreover, children will be encouraged to make drawings to let them understand more about nature conservation and encourage them to love the earth and environment. A children drawing contest will be held for elementary and kindergarten students. |
